đź‘‹ Say Goodbye to Universal Analytics. Secure Your Data Before the Switch to GA4.
Remember back in 2020 when Google rolled out the shiny new Google Analytics 4 (GA4)? Well, it’s now crunch time. As of July 1, 2024, everyone using Google Analytics will lose access to their Universal Analytics data. Yup, you read that right.
What Does This Mean for You?
Your trusty Universal Analytics has likely been storing your site’s data since 2012. But come July 1st, you’ll only be able to view data processed in your GA4 account. Kiss that old data goodbye unless you take action.
Google’s statement on this Universal Analytics shutdown is pretty blunt:
“Starting the week of July 1, 2024: You won’t be able to access any Universal Analytics properties or the API (not even with read-only access), and all data will be deleted. While the standard sunset took weeks to complete, the full Universal Analytics shutdown will happen within a week.”
What’s Next?
First off, remember, this is YOUR data. You decide if you want to keep it. All data from your Universal Analytics account can be exported for safekeeping, letting you refer back to it for years to come. But, you MUST do this before July 1, 2024.
When it comes to your reports, we’ve been using your Universal Analytics data for Year-on-Year (YoY) comparisons if your GA4 account wasn’t set up. After July, this won’t be possible. All your reporting data will come solely from GA4.
